DOI : 10.21566/tarbitderg.581083 - The aim of this research was to collect and identify the local oat varieties grown in the Western Mediterranean Region and to preserve them in the National Gene Bank. By means of collection program from Antalya, Isparta, Burdur, and Muğla regions 164 local oat varieties were collected in 2015. The collected genotypes and seven standard oat cultivars were tested in a field trial in Augmented experiment during 2015 and 2016 growing season under Antalya ecological conditions. certain morphological features such as; the average, standard deviation and coefficient of variation of the genotypes were recorded. As a result of the study, it was determined that there were significant variations among the local genotypes in respect of growth habit, hairiness of uppermost node, panicle shape, the orientation of panicle branches, tendency to be awned and color of lemma. Palea length was shorter than lemma among all of genotypes. In point of leaf sheath hairiness, all of the local genotypes were hairless except one. In terms of the hairiness of leaf margin, 152 genotypes were hairless, 10 genotypes had weak hairy and 2 genotypes had medium hairy characteristics. For four genotypes, the top of lemma was blunt and it was sharp for the other genotypes. While there were no significant differences among the leaf width, below flag leaf, flag leaf width, plant height, main-stem thickness, and grain length there were significant differences among the length of leaf below flag leaf, flag leaf length, uppermost internode length, number of main-stem node, panicle length, glumes length and grain width.
