1 Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi, Ziraat Fakültesi, Tarla Bitkileri Bölümü, Samsun DOI : 10.21566/tarbitderg.281889 - This study was conducted in Field Crops Department of Ondokuz Mayıs University with the aim of determine flowering period of 35 safflower varieties which were planted as winter crops in Samsun ecological condition in order to identify flower producing capability of safflower varieties. Time to %50 flowering period varied between 13 to 24 days among genotypes and the average was 21 days. The genotype 3F and 2MA have taken shortest (14 days); 21KZ has taken longest (24 days) in order to complete time to %50 flowering. %100 flowering changed 28 to 33 days and the average was 31 days. 47TR, 3F and IET genotypes were taken less time (28 days), while 26TR, 9IR, 41IR, 36SYR, 10HJK, 7ET, 30ET, 24IL, 25IL, 11A, 39LAR, 34UZ and 16PAK were taken more time (33 days) to complete %100 flowering. The number of flowers changed 200 to 353 in term of %50 flowering, the average flower number was counted 274, and least number (200) was counted in 45KB genotype, while 12I has produced maximum (353) number of flowers. The number of flowers changed 406 to 626 in %100 flowering and the average was 513.14. The genotype 45KB has produced least (406) while 12I genotype was produced the maximum (626) number of flowers just as the %50 flowering time. In conclusion other varieties except 28TR, 41IR, 23KWT, 45KB, 39LAR and 32TJ have produced more number of flowers than the standard variety named 45KB.
