1 Atatürk Üniversitesi Ziraat Fakültesi Tarla Bitkileri Bölümü. ERZURUM - In this study, Medicago papillosa specimens collected from Atatürk University rangelands were investigated in 1995. Average values for investigated properties were as follows; dry matter production per plant: 12.72 g. plant height: 24.87 cm, main steam number per plant: 51.10, main steam diameter: 1.20 mm, branch number per main steam: 3.23, leaf number per main steam: 27.57, flower cluster number per main steam: 9.70, flower number per flower cluster: 10.03, leaf height: 19.31 mm, leaflet height: 12.22 mm. leaflet wide: 4.73 mm, steam ratio in dry matter: 37.43%, leaf ratio in dry matter: 43.66%, flower cluster ratio in dry matter: 18.91, crude protein ratio: 23.13%, 1000 kernel weight: 2.92g and germination ratio: 22.35%.

The probability of a successful selection was high because of high variation coefficience in dry matter production per plant. Selection could be made on plant height, main steam number per plant, main steam diameter, flower cluster number per plant and long leafiness. Seed production should also be considered in breeding programmes. Keywords : Medicago papillosa. Hay Yield. Yield Components. Morphological Characteristics
