- This study was conducted to determinate the effects of boron doses on some characteristics of seedling of some safflower cultivars and line in 2011. Seeds of Yenice 5-38, Shifa, Dinçer and Remzibey-05 cultivars and TAEK-USLU line were used as material. Different doses (0, 7.5, 15, 22.5, 30, 37.5, 45, 60, 75 and 90 ppm) of boron solutions were used in this experiment. Sprout percentage, root length, shoot length, dry weight were measured at 14 days after sowing. Sprout percentage wasn`t different with increased boron concentration. The highest sprout percentage at 15 ppm was 92.67 % for TAEK-USLU line. The lowest sprout percentage at 90 and 75 ppm was % 83.33 for Dinçer and Shifa respectively. The highest root lenght at 22.5 ppm was 5.600 cm for Shifa. The lowest root length at 90 ppm was 1.650 cm for Shifa. The highest shoot length at 7.5 ppm was 6.703 cm for Shifa. The lowest shoot length at 90 ppm was 2.480 cm for Dinçer. The highest dry weight at 22.5 ppm was 21.33 mg for Shifa, respectively. The lowest dry weight at 90 ppm was 9.00 mg for Yenice 5-38, respectively. Keywords : Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.), root length (cm), shoot length (cm), seedling fresh and dry weight (mg) and boron toxicity
