1 Güneydoğu Anadolu Tarımsal Araştırma Enstitüsü PK:72 Diyarbakır - Seven bread wheat varieties were sown at 3 dates between 1995-1998. The different sowing dates were treated as different growth environment. Variance analysis was performed using variance components method and genotype x environment interactions and heritability was estimated for hectolitre weight, thousand kernel weight and yield. Genotype x location interaction was found to be significant for all traits studied, while genotype x year interaction was significant for grain yield and thousand kernel weight and insignificant for hectolitre weight. Heritability was found to be low for grain yield, moderate for hectolitre weight and high for thousand kernel weight.

Adaptation and stability of genotypes were studied using regression analysis of data in different growing environments. In terms of hectolitre, genotypes Sham IV, Karacadağ-98, Pehlivan and Hahn-44 which gave a `b` value close to `1` were found to be moderate adapting to all three environments. Sham IV, Karacadağ-98, Hahn-44 and F/68 showed moderate level of adaptation to the all environments for thousand kernel weight. For the grain yield, Pehlivan, F/68 and Karacadağ-98 varieties or line showed moderate level of adaptation to the all environments. Sham-IV variety showed well adaptation to the all environments for grain yield, Hahn-44 which gave b value smaller than `1` was found to be moderate adapting to low environments Keywords : Bread wheat, stability, heritability, genotype x environment interaction
